Three private schools in Karachi sealed for Covid SOP violations

The Karachi administration has gone back to enforcing and checking establishments following Covid-19 SOPs as the positivity rate hit 20.4% on Thursday. Karachi Central District’s administration sealed three schools for not following SOPs. In the last 24 hours, 1,645 cases were reported across the province. Out of this, 1,433 or over 87% was from Karachi. No coronavirus-related death has been reported in the past one day, however, 172 Covid-19 patients are said to be in critical condition. According to the health authorities, 95% of the new cases are of the Omicron variant. The government has been advising people to get vaccinated. Karachi Administrator Murtaza Wahab has said that the provincial government has not yet taken a decision regarding a lockdown in Sindh. He has debunked all rumours that state otherwise. On Sunday, the coronavirus positivity rate in Karachi crossed 12% ringing alarming bells for authorities. According to the health department, Karachi has reported 633 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours. Experts have blamed the spur in the case on the new Omicron variant. The strain is highly-transmissible. It was first reported in Karachi on December `13. In a bid to counter its spread, the Sindh government, on Friday, made covid vaccination mandatory for students above or of the age of 12 . ....

KEMU hostel grapples with Covid outbreak in 26 students

Twenty-six students of Lahore’s King Edward Medical College have tested positive for coronavirus as the positivity rate in the city rose to 6.3 percent.  According to university officials, students who tested positive were living in the hostel and have been isolated. All students living in the hostel have been tested and those with negative results are being moved to a separate location.    Across Pakistan, the fifth wave of coronavirus is leading to a rapid rise in the number of cases. The overall positivity ratio has shot up to 2.89 percent, according to National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC).  In the past 24 hours, 1,345 more cases have been repo. ....

Over 30 years? Get in line for the booster shot

Pakistani citizens above or of the age of 30 years can get their booster shot starting today, January 3, 2022. According to the National Command and Operation Centre, people who got both doses of their coronavirus vaccine at least six months back are eligible for the booster jab. The vaccine will be administered free of cost. Only Sinopharm, Sinovac, and Pfizer will be given as booster shots. You can go to any vaccination centre in your city for the shot. In Sindh, the booster service will be available at only three vaccination centers in Karachi: Dow Ojha Campus, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, and Children Hospital in District Central.
