i told each one of them, my conversation separately, whatever they need. sincerely, whatever they need, contact me directly. joining me now jamie rome, acting director of the national hurricane center. good to have you with us this hour. we saw in the most recent update, the 2:00 p.m. update that the storm was rapidly intensifying. the major concern at this hour seems to be the storm surge and also just how long this storm could sit. what are the areas that you re most focused on at this hour? i think water is going to be the big issue with this storm, both the incredibly heavy rainfall. you can see it starting to sweep over the southern portions of the florida peninsula. and the storm surge near to the east of where the center makes landfall, and those two when they combine together, it creates a lot of flooding issues. speaking the the mayor of tampa in the last hour, she was pointing to the separate saturation that they re already seeing on the ground there that they
being told to get out. weather experts say it s been 100 years since that city was directly hit by a hurricane. and with time running out, lines for water, gas, and sandbags are getting longer. no matter ian makes landfall, fema and state officials say all of florida will feel some level of impact. predictions include a huge storm surge, inland flooding, and even possible tornadoes. the bad piece of news we got this morning is that this storm is trending to slow down which means it potentially could sit on top of us for 47 hours. cnn has more from the weather center. tom, show us the path right now. a big concern which she mentioned, sitting on top of us for so long. t it s getting stronger. the winds are up from 80 to 85 mile-per-hour, waiting for an eye to form. it will ride over cuba. look where it is now. the warmest waters in the atlantic. high octane fuel. it interwent rapid intensification which we expected, that means within 24 hours the winds increased by 35. t
street s worse day in more than two years. it s wednesday, september 14th. it is 9 a.m. here in london where queen elizabeth s coffin now rests inside buckingham palace. behind me before the next leg of her final journey begins today. in the hours ahead a procession will take her coffin from the palace to westminster hall. members of the royal family, including king charles, prince william and prince harry, will be walking in that procession. the queen will lie in state at westminster hall starting later today until her funeral on monday at westminster abbey. ahead of that, mourners are camping out in london waiting for their chance to see the queen s coffin and pay their respects. we re right outside the gates of buckingham palace. just up there, they ve already been swung open. the crowd s been pushed back a little bit. as clarissa was saying, we re waiting for the hearse here, the coffin of elizabeth ii to come through. i ve been here for six or seven hours and the crowd was already here. they ve been waiting here patiently in the pouring rain out of respect for the queen, but also out of a sense of historical moments as well. people are very conscious that this is a moment in history that they are able to witness so they re out here standing up very patiently filming, trying to capture that moment. now when the casket, when the hearse goes through these gates for the last time, in fact, in the duration of buckingham palace, it will be met by king charles iii, by his queen, queen camila, queen consort. it will be taken. we saw 50 or 60 palace guards marching in there as well. they ll obviously be playing a role in welcoming the casket to buckingham p
