The Martha’s Vineyard Commission closed out the public hearing for modifications to the Harbor View Hotel, leaving the written record open for two more weeks. The hearing was the fourth for the project.
The company proposes to build a 4,625-square-foot spa at the hotel’s Bradley Cottage with seven treatment rooms, instead of building a 1,620-square-foot spa at the main hotel. The Bradley Cottage rooms would be reduced from 12 to four, and a room would be added at the Pease Cottage. There are no net changes to the rooms, since eight rooms are added to the main hotel and the Pease Cottage and eight rooms removed from the Bradley Cottage. ....

The denial of the development of regional impact (DRI) came after after a lengthy discussion of the benefits and detriments of the Edgartown project, with commissioners Christina Brown, Fred Hancock, Michael Kim, Ben Robinson, Linda Sibley, Ernie Thomas, and Christine Todd voting no, and Clarence (“Trip”) Barnes, Kathy Newman, Douglas Sederholm, Jim Vercruysse, and Joan Malkin voting yes. ....

Task Force Seeks Solutions To Woods Hole Freight Traffic

Members of a long-range planning task force are looking to fix the noise and traffic issues caused by the Steamship Authorityâs Woods Hole to Marthaâs Vineyard ferry operations.
The group, which has met five times so far, will continue to meet for the next year or so and will make recommendations to curb the issues. Heavy traffic, both auto and freight, on the Woods Hole to Vineyard Haven and Oak Bluffs route draws ire from communities on both sides of Vineyard Sound. Members are still in the fact-gathering stage, Steven Sayers, former general counsel and consultant, told the Steamship Authority board of governors during their January 25 meeting. He updated the board on the progress of the task force and the traffic mitigation work group, both of which were formed last year. ....

MVC decides not to reopen public hearing for new plans that remove parking, add green space.
The latest Hob Knob plans that remove some parking to add a lawn area.
The Martha’s Vineyard Commission decided a public hearing was not necessary for the latest plans for the Hob Knob’s proposed expansion.
The new plans reduced the number of parking spaces at the Tomassian property from 17 to nine. The parking spaces have been removed to clear space for a new lawn area.
Commissioners closed the Hob Knob hearing on Jan. 21, leaving the written record open until Jan. 28. The new plans were submitted on Jan. 27. ....
