This morning, i think everybody in america knew on day two whose a double s ought to be kicked. for the past 55 days we ve seen a lot of anger and frustration aimed at both bp and the government. lately more criticism of president obama s handling of the situation. reporter: fredricka, the president has been defending his response to the oil spill. this week the white house shifts into high gear. president barack obama will address the nation tuesday night. he ll meet with oil executives on wednesday. and he s starting off monday with a trip to the gulf region. his fourth since the spill. just today the obama administration outlined its plan for compensation of oil spill victims by forcing bp to set aside a large pool of money. we re going to use all the legal authority that we have. we believe that it s ultimately

On day two whose a double s ought to be kicked. reporter: in his address to the country tuesday night the president is also expected to talk about restructuring the way the oil industry is regulated through the interior department. fredricka, back to you. more on the government-imposed deadline for bp. for that we go to new orleans now with chris lawrence who is there. chris, any word from bp as o whether they will, indeed, make that deadline? reporter: well, they ve said publicly that they will make the deadline. that they will get something out today, end of the day. we don t know if that means in the next couple hours, if that means late tonight, 11:00 or midnight. but they are expected to come back with some sort of a response. the big question is, what more can they do? i think what the government and what the coast guard is looking for, one, is more back-up plans. there s been a lot of criticism of bp, that they seem to be lurching from one last-ditch effort to another. and
