Frederick K.C. Price of Crenshaw Christian Center in South L.A. dies

The Rev. Frederick K.C. Price, a televangelist who founded the Crenshaw Christian Center, a South Los Angeles megachurch with a 10,000-seat sanctuary, died Friday from COVID-19. He was 89. His family said he had been in the hospital suffering from the virus infection for the last five weeks.
Opened in 1989 on the former site of Pepperdine University, Price’s South Vermont Avenue church was topped by a massive aluminum sphere known as the FaithDome, 320 feet in diameter and 63 feet high. At the time, newspapers proclaimed it the largest geodesic church structure in the world, and it remains a landmark visible to air travelers arriving at Los Angeles International Airport. ....

Jaydon Mickens, shown basking in the aftermath of a victorious Super Bowl LV, is reason enough why you should never give up.
Will known by now, the former University of Washington pass receiver and kick returner told last week how he slept in his car in 2017 while he was a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars practice team and survived on basic needs.
The Los Angeles native was unsure how long he would stick with in the NFL and he was determined to save his paychecks in case it wasn t long. ....

When former Washington Husky receiver Jaydon Mickens settles under a soaring kickoff or a towering punt in Super Bowl LV, his journey to Tampa might seem improbable to some who know him.
But this is exactly how the diminutive Mickens planned it.
OK, maybe not planned, but how he dreamed it.
On Sunday, he ll play in the biggest game of his life as a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Once a one-family island home of the Vanderbilts, and later several other millionaires, Fisher Island off South Florida, was sold for development in the 1960s. A black construction laborer, Dana Albert Dorsey, who worked as a carpenter for Florida’s East Coast Railroad recognized the need to provide housing for black workers. With rental houses as it’s foundation, this grew into the first black-owned hotel in Florida – the Dorsey Hotel in Overtown.
