Town Council says it will 'seek the best for Bridport' in Dorset Local Plan

Bridport Town Council is set to finalise its response to Dorset Council s Local Plan draft next week and council representatives say they will seek the best for Bridport .
The town council s planning committee will hold a virtual meeting on Monday, February 22 to review a draft response to a consultation being carried out by Dorset Council on the Local Plan. The council will also be producing a video highlighting the issues for the Bridport area, which will be released to residents.
The Dorset Council Local Plan sets out planning policies and allocations to meet the needs of the whole of the Dorset Council area from 2023 until 2038, covering issues such as housing, employment, the environment, transport and economy. ....

ARE we really being consulted on the Local Plan? The proposed housing numbers, including for the North Dorchester development, reflected in the Dorset Council Local Plan are determined by a central government algorithm not by local need and are not negotiable. In the absence of a Local Plan, landowners and developers, and not residents, will have the final say in any new housing. At the same time, if a Local Plan is rejected then central government will simply step in. You only have to look to the case of South Oxfordshire to see what lies ahead for us in Dorchester and the county. Save The Area North of Dorchester hangs banner in town centre after it is removed by Dorset Council

A BANNER campaigning against a huge 4,000 home development proposed north of Dorchester has reappeared in the town centre - just days after it was removed by the council amid a row.
The council says the banner does not conform to its rules, which state only charity and community event notices can be displayed, and that it is unimpartial.
But STAND argues the proposed housing development - which is several times larger than Poundbury, on an historic area of countryside - is arguably the most important community event to happen to the town for a generation.

The conditions are not ideal for taking down banners, said Dorchester councillor Alistair Chisholm on behalf of STAND.
Where it has gone I do not know - but we want it back.
It was such an inoffensive banner - we were actually doing the council s work for them by drawing attention to the Local Plan consultation, and encouraging local people to have their say on a huge issue for Dorchester.
The council said it didn t meet their criteria for a banner - their criteria are apparently that it has to be a charitable or community event. ....

EXTINCTION Rebellion marched to Dorset Council to present a Christmas message urging them to rethink plans to build 4,000 new homes in north Dorchester and the Portland incinerator.
Local supporters of Extinction Rebellion were accompanied by local councillors in a socially distanced protest on Tuesday afternoon.
