Julie Mullis A GREAT-GRANDMOTHER who had half a lung removed due to cancer is going the extra mile to thank the team who have cared for her. Julie Mullis, from Newbury, has set herself the challenge of walking 70 miles throughout the year, the distance between her home and Guy’s Hospital, where she has undergone two operations to remove tumours from her lungs. The 72-year-old is using the walks as exercise to help recover from her operations, as well as an opportunity to raise money for Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity. In November 2020, after noticing she was getting short of breath when walking, Julie had a series of scans. ....
Government minister James Brokenshire has been discharged from hospital following surgery to remove his right lung. The security minister was diagnosed with lung cancer two years ago which required surgery to remove the upper lobe of his right lung but suffered a recurrence of a tumour in the organ. Mr Brokenshire said the “somewhat troublesome” lung had now been removed by surgeons at Guy’s Hospital in south London. A heartfelt thank you to the amazing NHS thoracic surgical, anaesthetist and theatre teams at Guy’s Hospital for performing my lung removal and to the incredible team on Dorcas Ward for getting me through the challenging days since.
