very popular, but there is this concern and very much shared on the left you infuse the economy with trillions of dollars and perhaps you re going to see inflation. there s a poll that talks about this for npr and pbs news hour that came out last month and inflation is the number one concern for americans when it comes to how they are worried about the economy. one of the things that the fed and white house economists and outside economists say over and over is we ve never before shut down an entire economy and reopened it back up. when that happens, it s going to be bumpy. places that don t open up as fast and supply doesn t mean in demand. we re seeing inflation like we haven t seen in some years, more than a decade. we saw that in the month of june. and the question is, is this something that s going to last for a short period of time? are we in for a long-term inflation cycle of the kind that many economists got used to and
and get a fair price for that crop. i m not interested in going to apply for additional moneys at usda that i will probably never get, going through the paper shuffle and going through the calls of speaking to numerous people about how to get these payments. that s not what farmers need. we need to reopen these doors to places like china who had who was purchasing 90% of u.s. soybeans and this administration has failed to open up new markets and that s what s hurting us here. you take away the biggest market and don t open up, you know, new doors for farmers. let me ask you this finally, sir, obviously you ve been a vocal critic of the president for a while on this front, you are a democrat, i believe you ran for public office at one point. i m interested, i m sure you have got a lot of republican friends, sir, right, who are farmers who voted for the president. well let me just finish the question. i m just interested in if those republican farmers are sticking with the pres
to work so that the tax refunds can get paid. i think that s right that we want to get the tax refund sent out, but what is wrong is that we don t open up government and facilitate that happening. the president s trying to ease the government and stick with it. shutting down government must want be the strategy of negotiations in the democracy. i don t know any government in the world that shuts itself down. and the shutdown the government and shut down, and after he made an agreement with mcconnell and the united states.
so we re going to come back from recess. we re not going to have it. and we re going to come back and on wednesday we re going to put on the floor full appropriation bills for the remaining part of the year which have already been essentially agreed to between the senate and the house. we hope that we can pass that. that assumes that we don t open up government before then. we would urge the president to open up government now because we have seven bills they could pass. it seems a safe assumption that things can change but it will still be closed when folks get back. kate, can i just make a point? of course. while people will be leaving, they are subject to a 24-hour call that any time we can in fact if the senate acts, if the senate sends a bill back to us, we will be prepared to pass it and open up the government. i did want to ask you that,
