HANCEVILLE A historic run has come to an end.
The Clay-Chalkville boys, in their first-ever appearance in a regional final, suffered a hard-fought 48-41 loss to Scottsboro on Wednesday at Tom Drake Coliseum in Hanceville, ending their season at 21-5 overall.
The Wildcats led for all but nine seconds of the game after jumping out to an 8-0 advantage in the opening minutes. Clay-Chalkville senior Skyler Smith gave his boys their first and only lead at 41-40 with 2:10 remaining in the contest. However, his go-ahead 3-pointer was immediately answered by a B.J. Harris jumper that put Scottsboro back on top for good with 2:01 left in the Northwest Regional final.

PINSON It was a hot start that propelled the Clay-Chalkville boys on Saturday night in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs, as the No.6-ranked Cougars handled Muscle Shoals 58-40.
The home team, thanks to a mix of inside muscle and outside rhythm, rolled out to a 10-0 start that led to a fluffy 18-2 advantage going into the second frame. Senior Skyler Smith started the scoring with a deep splash which preceded back-to-back inside jumpers from Donovan Shangase and Jonathan Harris. Justin Omar punctuated the early push on a second-chance kickout to the corner midway through the first.

PINSON After splitting a two-game regular season series, the Pinson Valley and Clay-Chalkville boys settled the tie on Friday night in the Class 6A, Area 12 tournament finals.
In a battle of top 10 teams, the sixth-ranked Cougars (19-4) traveled into Mike Dutton Gymnasium and escaped with a hard-fought victory to secure the area championship and lock up home-court advantage next Tuesday in their playoff opener.
Senior Isaiah Daniel ripped the game-winning trey, his defense held twice on the other end and Clay-Chalkville claimed the league title by a final of 53-50.
Daniel, who was named to the all-tournament team following the contest, pulled up from the right wing to break a 50-50 deadlock with 17 seconds remaining.

Several local basketball teams have punched playoff tickets this week as area tournaments have begun across the state.
Per AHSAA rules, area champions and runner-ups advance into sub-regional play next week, creating a must-win scenario in the area semifinals.
The
Clay-Chalkville girls passed their test on Monday, advancing into the Class 6A, Area 12 tournament finals with a 56-29 win over 3-seed Pinson Valley. That win puts the Cougars (13-6) on the road Thursday night at No. 6 Mortimer Jordan after the Blue Devils knocked off 4-seed Gardendale 75-23.
The
Springville girls saw their season end on Monday in the first round of the Class 6A, Area 13 tournament. The 2-seed Tigers fell 52-42 to visiting Pell City, who moves on to face 1-seed Oxford in the tournament finals.
