难得精品《洋麻将》
1985年下半年，人艺开始排美国话剧《洋麻将》。这个戏十分特别，一出演两个多小时的大戏，只有两个人物，一个老头，一个老太太。他俩同住一个养老院。整出戏，两人在休息厅里打牌、怀旧、拌嘴、等着儿女来探望，但是，没有任何人来看望，连护士都只有声音，不见人影。此戏对话精彩之极，把两个老人的性格、心态，刻划得淋漓尽致。人艺选了于是之和朱琳来演这出对手戏，夏淳执导，真可谓最佳阵容。剧本是由美籍华人、演员卢燕翻译介绍给人艺，又经英若诚润色过的。那时，英若诚已被任命为文化部副部长，但人艺的事他仍热心参与。一流的剧本，最佳的阵容，注定了此戏难得的精品地位。
一个秋日，我来到首都剧场后楼，看《洋麻将》的排练。大大的排演厅里，只有三个人。简单的景片围成一个大房 ....
