DAVE MOSIER/ independent editor Six people appeared for criminal hearings held this past week in Van Wert County Common Pleas Court. Andrew Thomas, 39, of Ohio City, was sentenced to 45 days in jail on a charge of domestic violence, a misdemeanor of the first degree. He was given credit for five days already served. Thomas also admitted to a violation of his unsecured personal surety bond for failing to appear for a hearing on unrelated cases. A new personal surety bond was set since he will be in jail for the next 40 days. A pretrial conference was scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 10. ....

According to police, on Dec. 22 at approximately 3:45 p.m., The Van Wert Police Department received a call of a possible drug deal witnessed at Walmart parking lot, involving a red Mustang. Donald O’Day Donald O’Day, 44, a resident of Tully Township, was charged with failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer, a felony of the third degree; operating a vehicle while impaired, his fourth OVI in the past 20 years; and vandalism, a felony of the fifth degree, as well as several traffic citations. According to the Van Wert Police Department, dispatchers received a call at approximately 3:45 p.m. Tuesday of a possible drug deal in the Walmart parking lot involving a red Ford Mustang.
