Gavin Newsom’s supporters have ended their last-ditch effort to derail the recall before the secretary of state certifies the campaign. They’re no longer asking people who signed recall petitions to remove their names. The deadline to do so is June 8. The effort, dubbed “Stop the Steal” as a snarky nod to Donald Trump’s false contention that voter fraud cost him the presidency, was legal but fraught with problems from the start. Newsom’s political strategist Ace Smith called the practice “imponderable.” ....
