Metro schools warn patrons about chocolate milk recall

Local schools districts are urging patrons who received meals from the districts late last week to throw out milk products after Hiland Dairy recalled chocolate milk produced at its Norman plant.
Hiland Dairy recalled the one-half pint 1% low fat chocolate milk produced at its Norman facility because some of the chocolate milk may contain food-grade sanitizers, which could make someone sick if they drank it.
While only eight cases, or 400 individual milk containers, were affected by the contamination, the company recalled all the half-pints of chocolate milk produced on that date a total of 240,000 milk containers.

Oklahoma reports record number of COVID-19 cases on Sunday

Oklahoma's health commissioner said the recent holiday season likely played a major role in the record number of COVID-19 cases reported on Sunday.
The Oklahoma State Department of Health reported 6,487 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, and 23 additional deaths. The number of daily cases was 24% higher than the previous record, set two days prior.
Health Commissioner Dr. Lance Frye said lags in reporting around the holidays likely produced the unusual spike.
"This rise in reported COVID-19 cases is due in part to a decrease in testing and a less consistent reporting schedule over the holidays," Frye said. The statement noted that gatherings during the holidays also likely helped boost those infection numbers.
