Victorville Daily Press A blood drive in honor of San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputy Dustin Whitson who was wounded in a shooting last month will take place this week. LifeStream Blood Bank is hosting the event at the Hesperia Sheriff’s Station from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday. Sheriff’s spokesperson Jodi Miller said Wednesday that he remains in the hospital but “continued to show improvement.” As of Tuesday, the suspected shooter, Robert Sparks, has yet to be arraigned on attempted murder charges. He also remains in the hospital after being shot by deputies. According to the American Red Cross, every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs a blood transfusion and about 36,000 units of red blood cells per day are required to keep up with demand. A unit is equal to about one pint. ....
