S.F. judge says Asian jurors in attempted murder case were improperly excused because of their race

A San Francisco judge on Thursday tentatively ruled that a public defender in an attempted murder case improperly excused potential Asian jurors because of their race.
In a reversal of an earlier decision, San Francisco Superior Court Judge Rita Lin found that of nine Asian potential jurors public defender Max Breecker dismissed during peremptory challenges, three were excused for impermissible reasons.
The case involves domestic violence prosecutors said the suspect, 38-year-old Jo’Vaughn Timms, shot and injured his girlfriend during an argument in May 2018. The woman named as victim is the case is Asian and Black. ....
