a gathering for the ages on hallowed grounds, 70 years after the greatest generation came to the shores of normandy the world remembers. president obama is here along with dozens of world leaders. just moments ago we saw mr. obama take a few minutes to shake the hands of the men who stormed these beaches all those years ago. good day from normandy. i m chuck todd with a very special edition and very special coverage of the daily rundown. today we come to you from france but it s important to note we re on american soil. the normandy american cemetery is the resting place for more than 9,000 americans. many of whom lost their lives on omaha beach right behind me. every d-day anniversary is moving but today s commemoration is especially poignant. the veterans gathered here are in their 90s and fewer and fewer d-day survivors remain to tell their stories. at dawn 160,000 allied troops stormed the beaches, the largest sea-borne invasion in history. it was a turning point ....
