Continuance ordered for IC man facing murder charge

A Johnson County judge has delayed trial for an Iowa City man accused of initiating a head-on collision on Interstate 80 in 2019 that resulted in the death of a Texas man.
33-year-old Stephen Lucore waived his right to a trial by jury on March 5
th., and trial was set for April 6
th. On March 8
th.
Lucore allegedly told authorities he was trying to kill himself the evening of June 16
th. He was driving his Hyundai Sonata eastbound in the westbound lanes without his headlights, traveling at 80 miles an hour when he collided with a Honda head-on. The driver, David Sawyer of Frisco Texas, survived the collision, but one of his passengers, 64-year-old Robert Sawyer of Nocona Texas, died of his injuries. Four other passengers in Sawyer’s car were injured. ....

Coralville man accused of choking domestic partner after both threw shoes at each other

Allegedly choking his domestic partner after the two threw shoes at each other during a fight has led to a Coralville man’s arrest.
Coralville Police say the alleged victim tried to leave the couple’s apartment on the 400 block of 6
th Street around 3am on December 9
th when 27-year-old Alexander Mullenix blocked the door. The victim threw a shoe at Mullenix, who responded by throwing two shoes back at the person.
Police say Mullenix then pushed his partner down to the ground and put his hands around the alleged victim’s neck. The partner told police they were eventually able to remove Mullenix’s hands from their neck, but he still prevented them from leaving. The alleged victim later told police they found it difficult to breathe for a period of time after the reported attack. ....
