facing a no confidence vote triggered by members of his own party. the question is, will the british leader now be removed from office? good morning. and welcome to way too early. on this monday, june 6th. i m jonathan lemire. thanks for joining us. we re coming off another weekend of deadly mass shooting across the country. in the past 72 hours, at least 17 people have been killed, nearly 70 were hurt and several of those victims have critical injuries. according to data from the gun violence archive, there were at least 13 mass shootings from friday, through sunday. the independent research group a defines a mass shooting as an incident in which four or more people are shot. not including the shooter. two cities saw the worst of the violence. in philadelphia, three people died and 12 were wounded, late saturday night, in a popular downtown district. south street. investigators believe the shooting came after a fight between two men. and most of the victims, innocent bys
few weeks. for americans who are tuning in to this, and aren t quite sure what to expect, from these hearings, give us an explainer, if you will, about what, if any, legal consequences could come at the conclusion of the hearings, after the committee puts together its final report. i mean it s going to be up to the committee to decide, and what they decide it do with their effort. i ve heard both the committee that they may make criminal referrals and then send the packet of evidence to the justice department and that is the agency that will decide whether they move ahead with it, and it is not necessarily that the d.o.j. will act on it and the select committee is looking at how they want to proceed, but at the end of the day, look, the d.o.j. has now around three or four, at least three or four grand juries investigating january ofth, and events leading up to the capitol attack and so
felony conspiracy to defraud the government is congress and not doj. yeah. there s a lot of frustration there and we ll see if this ends up being a referral and if the doj will act upon it but what i thought was interesting is the way that they framed the case. they point out that the president went through the efforts in the courts to challenge the election results. 60 daises. losing all of them. this line stuck out to me. they began to plan extra judicial efforts to overturn the results and prevent the president-elect from assuming office. he had every right to challenge, to go through the process of challenging results through the courts. they went and tried to do something that s extra judicial. frankly illegal. i think extra judicial isn t in most vocabularies and reminded me of mueller s riddle
