Their deaths shook not only their families, but also members of their larger communities who watched as those homicides occurred one after the other since spring 2020.
The deaths paint a picture of violent acts against women, an epidemic all its own that is not new and could
be on the rise.
Women who are facing domestic or intimate partner violence face an already challenging path to safety and/or justice, often having to recount their traumatic experiences over and over to police, victim-witness and social service advocates, prosecutors, judges and juries.

Jane Doe Inc., the Massachusetts Coalition Against Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence, announced the appointment of three members to it’s Board of Directors, including Scituate resident Celia Richa, with Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce.
“JDI could not be more humbled to have three such seasoned and well respected leaders join the team at JDI,” said Debra J. Robbin, JDI’s executive director. “Their past engagement with JDI and commitment to addressing gender-based violence and racial justice speaks volumes to who they are as individuals and the contributions they will bring to JDI’s work as a social justice organization.”

Legislation would bring transparency to the presence of violence on college campuses

College students would be anonymously surveyed about their experiences with sexual misconduct on campus and would have access to new, confidential resources in the event of sexual assault, under a bill that as of press time sat on Gov. Charlie Baker s desk after a last-minute flurry of activity in the Legislature last week.
In a state rich with college campuses, versions of the bill have been filed since 2015 driven by student advocates and recent graduates who have been sharing their stories with lawmakers. Swampscott’s state representative, Lori Ehrlich, has filed versions of the bill in the House and been steadfast in helping get it passed.
