Woman who died in vehicle fleeing police was a former Ephrata resident

NCWLIFE The Grant County Sheriff’s Office said Shockey is originally from Ephrata. The driver of the vehicle, Augustine J. Avalos, 44, of Zillah, is in the Grant County Jail on suspicion of vehicular homicide. An Ephrata police officer was responding to a suspicious person report in the 1200 block of Sunset Street S.E. about 2:30 a.m. when he reportedly saw the person jump into a vehicle, which then sped away to Dodson Road North. With pursuing officers still well behind, Avalos reportedly lost control of the vehicle near the intersection of Road 12.8. Another passenger in the vehicle, Bradley P. Santoyo, 25, of Grandview, was not injured.

KXLY March 9, 2021 5:56 AM Olivia Roberts Updated: GRANT CO., Wash. A woman was killed during a police pursuit south of Ephrata Tuesday morning. Around 2:30 a.m., an Ephrata police officer responded to a report of a suspicious person in the Swanson Addition neighborhood in Ephrata. When the officer arrived, the suspect got into a car and drove off quickly, according to the Kyle Foreman with the Grant County Sheriff’s Office. The suspect drove south on Dodson Road while police tried to catch up. At one point, the driver lost control and the car rolled into a yard. Foreman said a woman died at the scene. Two men nearby were questioned by police.
