School teachers play a big role in children’s lives as they mature. Many go unnoticed for their work. A select group of teachers are recognized for their achievements. There were 138 educators across the state nominated for the Kansas Teacher of the Year distinction.
Nominations are made in each of four regions in the state. The Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE), sponsor of the Kansas Teacher of the Year program, appoints regional selection panels comprised of teachers, education administrators and higher education representatives to select semifinalists and finalists from each region.
This award recognizes excellent teaching in the elementary and secondary classrooms of the state

City manager Nick Hernandez gave an update on the City of Dodge City during the State of the City Address on Wednesday at the Boot Hill Casino and Resort Conference Center.
Among Hernandez s talking points were the impact the COVID-19 pandemic had on city s saying that the national and state response was met with mixed responses while Ford County saw prosperity due to agriculture and energy sectors, as well as impacts to small businesses such as retail and services. When I m talking about the ag sectors, I m talking about the mills, the plants, they were able to continuously run throughout this entire pandemic, Hernandez said. The energy sector in wind energy didn t stop and got it producing energy in this area.

Returning after a long break following its Nov. 9 meeting, the Dodge City Unified School District 443 Board of Education was given a presentation of information by the Air Force Junior ROTC program, overseen by instructor Master Sgt. Raymond Gonzales and four of his students that make unit KS-2021.
In 2018, USD 443 made the decision to pursue an Air Force JROTC program and in late 2019 was awarded an Air Force JROTC program with the expectation of implementing this program in August 2020.
Gonzales was hired to fill one of the two instructor positions in June 2020, and from there began to develop the program.
