closer to understanding why the government felt it had to do this as opposed to waiting and going back and forth yet again with the former administration. but let s be clear here. this also could not move in all honesty the needle all that much for you out there in the public because there s a reason these things are often kept under wraps and has a lot to do with protecting the rights of the person whose home or in this case, estate, are being searched, and of course the safety of witnesses and sources. the judge said as much when he cleared the way for fbi agents to execute that warrant and saying in his written order, quote, the government has met its burden to show compelling, reason, good cause to seal portions of the affidavit because disclosure would reveal, one, identities of witnesses, law enforcement agents and uncharged parties, two, the direction, strategy, sources, scope, and methods. and three, grand jury methods protected by criminal rules of procedure. a ....

potential future case, plus put investigators in jeopardy or expose potential witnesses to pressure. there s also the long standing practice at the justice department to not say anything about pending cases, especially ones as politically sensitive as this. that said, as the judge in the case recognized, there s public interest involved here. cnn s jessica schneider starts us off. do we know why exactly the judge decided to release this? we don t know for sure, anderson, but it s possible that the doj may have given a little more than they originally thought they could. the judge moved really swiftly today. it was less than four hours after he received prosecutors proposed redactions that he ruled that what they proposed would in fact be sufficient and should be released to the public by noon tomorrow. the reason it s interesting that this judge came to such a quick conclusion is that when doj argued in court last week, they said that any redactions could be so exten ....

failed because this man is continuing to use a seditious lies to try to hold on to power in this country, is illegally pressuring witnesses to not give testimony to one of the branches of government that has a sacred obligation to protect the constitution. i mean, if you think about it, we have candidates all over the country proudly campaigning on this seditious lie. it is time. i feel very strongly that there is a mountain of evidence now about this man s state of mind and exactly what went down, and that when he couldn t do it legally, he said screw the law. i don t care about the law. i want to hold on to power, and that is a crime. well, so much there to unpack in your one response, claire. i think in some ways, the quietest witness was the most tragic one. it was mr. ayers. he was one such radicalized trump supporter. he described himself as a family man and a working man. he said everything about his life has changed. in an eerie way, there was an echo to a lif ....

than they originally thought they could. you know, the judge move really swiftly today. it was less than four hours after he received prosecutors for post redactions let he ruled that what they propose would, in fact, be sufficient, that it should be released to the public by noon tomorrow. and the reason it s interesting that this judge came to such a quick conclusion is that when doj argued in court last week, they said that any redactions could be so extensive that it would make the entire affidavit completely devoid of content, in their words. when they said that, the judge pushback and he argued, look, there must be something that you can release. so, it does seem that maybe doj has come up with a version, obviously that s satisfying to the judge, even though, of course, huge portions of this are likely to be blacked out, anderson. what s parts can be expected to be redacted? yeah, so we likely won t see any information that relates to the investigation itself ....

the investigation. walk us through some of the key revelations in here. well, the reason why the fbi went to mar-a-lago just over two weeks ago to do this unusual this highly unprecedented search was because after reviewing the 15 boxes that were retrieved earlier this year from mar-a-lago an sent back to the national archives, they found 184 unique documents bearing classification markings. that s a lot of documents that were being stored in an unsecured environment in the basement at the former president s beach house in palm beach. that s the bottom line of why the fbi was so concerned, why the national archives were so concerned and why this became a criminal investigation in february of this year. obviously this is now an investigation that is ongoing and that s the reason why there is so much information that is still redacted. about half of the pages in this 38-page affidavit document are still redacted because the fbi says it has concern about the safety of ....
