Diss and District Rotary Club cartoonist raises money for great causes with a little help from fellow members Published: 12:00, 06 April 2021 An amateur cartoonist has turned his hand to raising money for charity after revealing his hidden talent to friends and fellow club members. David Gooderham, 82, had been drawing cartoons for his family for many years, having enjoyed creating them throughout his life. After placing some cartoons on the wall to give directions to guests at a barbecue hosted at his farm in Tibenham, Mr Gooderham was encouraged to produce them for Diss and District Rotary Clubâs newsletter. VOLUNTEERS have stepped in to help the local community during the recent floods. On Friday evening Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team (SRMRT) were called in to help people after water was reported seeping from under a brick section of the flood defences near Wallsgate Lane off Commercial Street in Norton. A spokesperon for SRMT said : “The Local Resilience Forum and Environment Agency on site wanted to reinforce the wall with sandbags and deploy high volume pumps into the area to pump water back into the river. “The challenge with this was that the fields between the railway line and the river were already flooded. ....

LONGNIDDRY & District Rotary Club has presented special awards to five local groups in recognition of their “outstanding efforts” supporting communities during the coronavirus lockdown. The club’s president Tom Shearer, assisted by president-elect Charles Simpson, presented the Rotary Service Recognition Awards to groups in the Preston Seton Gosford ward. Mr Shearer said: “This is the first time the club has presented such recognition awards and I can’t think of any better-deserving initiatives to be recognised by the club. “All the recipients of the award, representing the many individuals who gave of their time in supporting people in need throughout the pandemic, are owed such gratitude for all their efforts and it is right that this is recognised and celebrated.” ....
