Dawson Creek RCMP investigating suspicious incident after body was found on Highway 2

The Dawson Creek RCMP were called to Highway 2 and Clark Road in Pouce Coupe after a body was found in the area on Sunday morning around 9 am.
The matter is now being treated as a suspicious death and BC RCMP North District Major Crime Unit has taken over the investigation.
“Investigators are working closely with the BC Coroners Service in an effort to determine the identity of the deceased and to confirm the cause of death,” said North District RCMP Corporal Madonna Saunderson.
UPDATE: Man charged with murdering woman, 35, who was found dead in the Kootenays
(UPDATE: May 12 @ 11:08 am): A man has been charged with murdering Brenda Ware.
Philip Toner, 41, appeared in court in Kelowna this morning after being found in Lake Country yesterday.
Ware, 35, was found dead in her car 54 kilometres northeast of Radium – along Hwy 93 – on May 6.
Toner has been charged with second-degree murder.
He is being transported to Alberta so the province s prosecutors can lay the official charge in court there, police said.
That s because the murder is alleged by police to have taken place in Alberta.
“Although a charge has now been laid in relation to this complex, inter-provincial criminal investigation, the investigation is still very much active and ongoing at this time, we continue to share Toner’s photo in an effort to advance the investigation,” said Acting Officer-In-Charge Supt. Sanjaya Wijayakoon of the BC RCMP Major Crime Section.

CALGARY RCMP in B.C. are seeking information from the public in Alberta after a woman was found dead in the Kootenay National Park. The body of Brenda Ware, 35, was found on May 6 along Highway 93, 54 Kilometers northeast of Radium. RCMP is regarding the death as suspicious. “The investigation has determined that Ware was known to have been in in Didsbury, Alberta and traveled to Kootenay National Park, BC where her vehicle and body were discovered,” said RCMP in a press release. Ware is described by RCMP as 5 1 tall and 108 lbs. with blue eyes and brown hair. RCMP is looking to speak with anyone who saw Ware or her vehicle, a red 2019 Jeep Cherokee Alberta Licence Plate YPC553, between May 4 and 6.
