The police said that some organized cheaters took advantage of the common people’s distress owing to the uncertainties around questions related to movements, medicine, oxygen, etc. They launched an “Operation Cyber Prahaar” to track and capture the fraudsters involved in misleading and duping people. “The onset of 2nd wave of COVID-19 brought into force a partial lockdown. With uncertainties around several questions related to movements, medicine, oxygen, etc., the SM Monitoring Cell of Delhi Police, being closely monitored by CP Delhi, started answering the concerned public with relevant answers and guidance,” the Delhi Police said in a statement.

Delhi Police has so far registered 372 FIRs against Covid cheats, arrested 91 persons, seized 95 devices and frozen 214 bank accounts within cheated amount of Rs 53,60,000 , informed the Delhi Police in a press statement. 1,300 Delhi Police personnel trained to tackle cyber-crime amid COVID-19 lockdown ANI | Updated: Mar 07, 2021 14:29 IST New Delhi [India], March 7 (ANI): In light of the upward trend in cybercrimes throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, about 1,300 personnel of the Delhi Police have been trained through video-conferencing as part of the Police force decisive measures against crime. According to Anyesh Roy, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Cyber Cell, incidents increased two-fold during the peak of the lockdown - from April and July 2020. Out of all these, about two-thirds were driven by online frauds. Cases of extortion by morphing videos of people (especially related to sexual conduct) also increased last year.
