Pottstown man draws prison for role in overdose death

NORRISTOWN â A Pottstown man is on his way to state prison after he admitted to his role in the overdose death of another man who was found dead in a vehicle on a parking lot of an apartment complex in the borough.
Javier Esteban Velez, 24, of the unit block of North Franklin Street, was sentenced in Montgomery County Court to 4 to 8 years in a state correctional facility after he pleaded guilty to a charge of drug delivery resulting in death in connection with the Oct. 29, 2019, fatal overdose of 38-year-old Matthew A. Surbrook.
Other charges of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and criminal use of a communication facility were dismissed as part of the plea agreement. ....

Philadelphia man charged in fatal overdose of Hatfield man

LANSDALE â A Philadelphia man is in jail and awaiting a preliminary hearing on charges he allegedly provided a fatal dose of heroin and fentanyl to a Hatfield man.
Derrick Jackson, 58, of the 7600 block of Gilbert Street, was arraigned before District Court Judge Edward Levine on charges of drug delivery resulting in death, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, criminal use of a communication facility and recklessly endangering another person in connection with the Sept. 30, 2020, overdose death of Jason Evans, 49, of Hatfield.
Levine set Jacksonâs bail at $250,000 cash, which Jackson was unable to post. Jackson remains in the county jail while awaiting his April 21 preliminary hearing on the charges. ....
