First Draft welcomes newsman and poet


PENDLETON — A writer, who sees both poetry and journalism as essential in reporting on the world and witnessing the human condition, will be featured at the First Draft Writers’ Series on Thursday, Jan. 21.
Pulitzer Prize finalist and poet Don Colburn will headline the event, followed by Open Mic. The Zoom gathering begins at 7 p.m., and anyone can request an invitation at [email protected].
The First Draft Writers’ Series, hosted by the Pendleton Center for the Arts, is one of the local events that’s made a smooth transition to an online format, attracting a broader audience than the in-house version was able to reach. ....

Daily Hampshire Gazette Editor-In-Chief Laid Off Amid Corporate Consolidation

On Tuesday, Daily Hampshire Gazette Editor-In-Chief Brooke Hauser announced that she had lost her job. Hauser took the position at the 234 year-old publication – the longest running daily newspaper in Massachusetts – in the summer of 2018. In a statement, publisher Michael Moses of Newspapers of New England said Hauser will be replaced by Joan Livingston of the Greenfield Recorder. NNE continues to lay off employees and sell holdings. Hauser spoke with WAMC about her time at the Gazette as she cleaned out her office in Northampton Tuesday.
