A list of creditors of an insolvent Auckland childcare business has been released showing a major trading bank and many Government departments and agencies seeking money, including $171,000 to the Ministry of Justice after a
tree seriously injured children.
Pritesh Patel of licensed insolvency practitioners Patel & Co has just released his first report on the business which failed to identify danger posed by a dead tree that toppled and injured toddlers.
Four toddlers were seriously injured at when the tree fell to the ground of the outside play area at Discoveries Educare in Newmarket. ....

Eleven daycare centre companies liquidated: licences cancelled, prosecution over tree

Eleven Auckland daycare or early childcare centre companies are in liquidation after licences were cancelled by the Ministry of Education and a WorkSafe prosecution after a tree toppled on toddlers.
Rising debts due to fines,
falling numbers of children attending after the state s action and staffing issues were all said to be reasons for the failure of the business with the centres throughout Auckland.
Licensed insolvency practitioner Pritesh Patel of Patel & Co has been appointed. A report is due to be issued on the liquidations shortly. ....

Eleven Discoveries Educare businesses placed into liquidation, more being assessed

Liquidator Pritesh Patel said the incident and the fine that followed were damaging to the business.
Further bad press around inadequate staff resourcing exasperated an already bad public relations problem the company had and customer numbers began to fall, he said.
The Ministry of Education cancelling licences also affected the business and to top it off the company had inadequate operating infrastructure in place, he said.
“They were expanding too fast without having the proper controls in place,” Pritesh said.
It was still being determined what creditors were owed, he said.
There would be minimal redundancies because most centres were already in a state of hibernation, he said. ....
