Deadline nears in Louisiana to seek aid for winter storms May 1, 2021 FacebookTwitterEmail BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) Louisiana homeowners, renters and business owners have fewer than two weeks left to apply for federal disaster aid for property damages and losses caused by the severe winter storms that struck the state in February. The deadline to register for assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and to apply for low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration is May 10. FEMA grants are available for losses not covered by insurance, including money for home repairs, temporary rental aid and replacement of damaged items. More information is available at DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 800-621-3362 from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. ....

And all hotline numbers. quickly before i let you go, long-term shelters are being set up, what is that situation like? first i would encourage people to register at disasterassistance.gov, the president has made available assistance to those impacted in florida. to your point, sheltering. we will be providing short-term sheltering, transitional sheltering assistance will be authorized in the next couple of days to provide hotel rooms to those who don t have a home to go back to but the american red cross is a tremendous partner of ours and they have shelters opened and available before, during, after this hurricane. i encourage everybody to reach out and get somewhere that s safe and has power and take care take care. harris: will be right back. smile dad. ....
Key for folks there getting help. remind us, what does that change once that declaration is in place. what this is focused on is people that lost places to live, their home is damaged, who didn t have insurance, it activated the individual assistance program for people that don t have insurance, and probably the biggest thing they re focused on as the storm moves through is people that have nowhere else to go in shelters or homes are destroyed is temporary housing assistance. start to register now. go to disasterassistance.gov. download the app. the focus of the storm is not recovery yet, it is very much an active threat, life safety is priority. these programs are being turned onto help people once we get to recovery phase. as you re watching this, sir, based on your experience, where is your focus this morning? it is where the rain is coming down and about to come ....
