The government has raised the prospect of overhauling the National Disability Insurance Scheme to rein in spiralling costs, after pumping another $13.2 billion over four years into the program.
The scheme is now expected to cost state and federal governments $122 billion over four years as the number of users reaches 450,000, with Treasurer Josh Frydenberg and NDIS Minister Linda Reynolds warning the focus was on the scheme’s stability as it reached maturity.
