Public schools will offer universal access to in-person learning on or before the weeks of March 29 for K-5 students and April 19 for students in grades 6-12.

PORTLAND, Ore. Nearly a year after ordering the closure of all schools statewide, Oregon Gov. Kate Brown on Friday issued an executive order to return all Oregon public school students to the classroom for in-person learning.
Thanks to the smart choices Oregonians have made, our COVID-19 numbers have declined,” said Brown. “All but six counties now meet or exceed Oregon’s advisory metrics for a return to in-person, hybrid learning for all K-12 grade levels. And, five of those counties meet the advisory metrics for a return to elementary school. ....

Oregon reports no new COVID-19 related deaths, 492 cases; vaccinations to expand

PORTLAND, Ore. (KTVZ) There are no new COVID-19 related deaths in Oregon, keeping the state’s death toll at 2,149, the Oregon Health Authority reported Friday.
OHA also reported 492 new confirmed and presumptive cases of COVID-19 as of 12:01 a.m. Friday, bringing the state total to 152,190.
At a Friday news conference, Gov. Kate Brown and OHA officials said that despite this week s weather-related vaccine shipment delays, those eligible for vaccinations will expand as scheduled on Monday to include those 70 and older, and the following week to seniors over 65. ....

Governor Kate Brown held a media conference today to update Oregonians on the status of COVID-19 in Oregon. She said Oregonians continue to make smart choices, and the numbers speak for themselves "As of yesterday, Oregon had the third lowest infection rate in the nation" she said. And while this is great news, we must remain vigilant in the face of challenges ahead with the new variants. Oregon officials at the state and county levels are bracing for chaos in the vaccination rollout as seniors who are living independently are now eligible for the vaccine, beginning with those who are 80 years and older. Meanwhile Gov. Kate Brown continues to receive criticism from the House and Senate Republican Caucuses about the vaccine rollout. 
 
 
Brown received criticism from policymakers and hospitals on her choice to prioritize vaccinating teachers ahead of seniors in an effort to return kids to in-person schooling. This change came after the Trump administration had promised extra doses to states. Oregon had decided to vaccinate teachers and seniors at the same time in response to the extra doses, but the doses promised to states did not materialize.  ....

Federal judge in Oregon orders state to vaccinate inmates along with correctional workers
As reported in this local press piece, A federal judge ordered Oregon officials late Tuesday to immediate offer state prison inmates COVID-19 vaccines.   Here is more about this notable ruling:
U.S. Magistrate Judge Stacie Beckerman granted a temporary restraining order as part of a larger case by a group of prison inmates. They’ve criticized the state’s response to the pandemic inside prisons and argue it’s violated the U.S. Constitution. Beckerman’s ruling applies to more than 12,000 inmates who live in one of the state’s 14 prisons. “Defendants shall offer all [Adults in Custody] housed in [Oregon Department of Corrections] facilities, who have not been offered a COVID-19 vaccine, a COVID-19 vaccine,” she wrote.. ....
