Bahamas National Trust Unveils New Brand After 60+ Years

The Bahamas National Trust (BNT) unveiled a new brand on April 14th, 2021 after 61 years as environmental gatekeepers in The Bahamas. The brand was launched in a digital format across the organization’s web and social media pages, with a press conference to unveil the new logo to the media.
Established in 1959, the BNT has been at the forefront of progressive legislation to protect the environment. Their many successes include the establishment of the first land and sea park in the world – the Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park; the creation of the Inagua National Park to protect the Bahamian flamingo; and their “Conchservation” campaign that seeks to protect the Bahamian Queen Conch and preserve it for future generations. ....

NASSAU, BAHAMAS The Bahamas National Trust (BNT) said Bahamas Petroleum Company’s (BPC) unfruitful oil exploration exercise should serve as a “turning point” for this nation to focus on working towards a future that embraces sustainability and renewable energy.
The BNT said in a statement that it is reassured to hear that no commercial volumes of oil have been discovered during this exercise, and that the company will cease its activities in this area.
“The BNT is pleased to hear no incidents occurred in the drilling process and hopes the abandonment procedure goes well, without incident,” the BNT stated. ....

BNT voices opposition to proposed South Abaco development

NASSAU, BAHAMAS The Bahamas National Trust (BNT) yesterday voiced its opposition to the proposed $580 million South Abaco Resort & Marina project, noting that the donation of land and funds to the organization to support conservation activities would not influence its view of the project.
“The Bahamas National Trust is in direct opposition to the proposed South Abaco hotel, marina and residences
development based on a thorough review of the environmental impact assessment (EIA) of the project. As stated by our allies, Sustainable South Abaco, the proposed development will directly reduce the quality and quantity of habitat available for bonefish, Bahama parrots and numerous other commercially and culturally important species. This threat is compounded by the proposal’s economic shortcomings which could undermine the project’s success, leaving large areas of pristine terrestrial and marine ecosystems decima ....
