According to the CDC, addiction and substance abuse increased during the pandemic. A critical resource for recovery are sober living facilities. These spaces are structured communities that support recovering addicts, but the number of available spots hasn’t matched the growing need in southeast Wisconsin.
We’ll learn about the only sober living facility in Milwaukee’s Riverwest neighborhood and how they’re building a community. Then, we’ll tell you about a new podcast called "Be Seen" that explores Wisconsin’s LGBTQ history. 4th Dimension operates a sober living facility in Riverwest. It’s one of the largest providers of sober living housing in Milwaukee County. Jason Gonzalez, the founder and CEO of 4th Dimension Sobriety Inc., shares more about building a sober living community and making recovery more visible.

There is new life for the former bank building at 500 E. Center St., but not as a hostel.
Cream City Hostel, which opened in 2019, fell victim to the global travel downturn triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic.
RiverBee LLC, which owns the property, pivoted to seeking a new tenant in 2020. The investment group owns many of the fixtures, including the beds, in addition to the property.
