SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) Syracuse quarterback Tommy DeVito announced Sunday night on social media that he’s entering the transfer portal.
In a post on Twitter, the redshirt junior wrote that he was grateful to the university and all the teammates he played with.
The morning after DeVito’s announcement, Babers took the stage stating that this wasn’t how he expected DeVito’s time with the Orange to end like it did.
SU’s offensive line struggled with injuries and overall consistency during DeVito’s years as a starter, and ranked near the bottom of FBS teams last year.

After nearly one month of spring practice, Syracuse head coach Dino Babers spoke with the media Wednesday for the first time since March 30. Entering his sixth season at SU and coming off a 1-10 season, Babers spoke on the ongoing starting quarterback battle while adding that every position is open for competition. Babers emphasized the Orange’s depth under center, and while returning starter Tommy DeVito and Mississippi State transfer Garrett Shrader have received most of the attention, Babers said he has also been impressed with the QB’s behind them.
