CORONADO The sun had yet to rise Saturday when Gloria Todd Collett began arranging lawn chairs and blankets at the corner of Orange Avenue and First Street, the epicenter of Coronado’s Independence Day Parade. The beloved procession was cancelled last summer for the first time in its 72-year history due to the pandemic. But it was revived for this year’s Fourth of July weekend, and Collet and friends weren’t going to miss their tradition of mixing along the parade route. “The people include my mom, my three kids, my friend Amy, her three kids and her parents,” Collett said, using her fingers to tick off the names. ....
Racing returns to San Diego County with Coronado s Crown City Classic Crown City Classic in Coronado 2021 and last updated 2021-07-03 22:18:32-04 SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The first road race in San Diego County since the start of the coronavirus pandemic was held Saturday, with what organizers said was a field of 2,273 runners for the 48th Crown City Classic in Coronado. The runners started at Tidelands Park, beneath the Coronado Bridge and a 1,500 square-foot American flag, then headed to Glorietta Boulevard. The 12K course went past the Hotel Del Coronado and along the Silver Strand. Some runners wore costumes, had faces painted red, white and blue and ran in stars and stripes compression socks. ....
