The Fiji Chinese community is always ready to assist in times of crisis, says Chinese Association of Fiji president Jenny Seeto after Dongguan farmers in the Sawani, Nausori and Tamavua areas gave fresh produce to the Ministry of Health’s food ration effort.
“These farmers have donated assorted vegetables, mainly cabbages, beans, lettuce, coriander, dalo and tavioka to the ministry, Colonial War Memorial Hospital, St Giles Psychiatric Hospital, as well as Dilkusha Home and aged care facilities,” she said. ....

The Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission is yet to confirm whether the children who have been allegedly subjected to verbal and physical abuse and neglect at Dilkusha Home have been interviewed and provided support and counselling.
When questioned, the Commission says it is trying to hold a meeting with the Methodist Church in Fiji, Police and Department for Social Welfare regarding the matter.
We have also contacted the Director of Social Welfare, Rupeni Fatiaki who says they are waiting for the Human Rights Commission to call a meeting to decide their next action. ....

The Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission, Methodist Church in Fiji, Social Welfare Department and Police will meet this afternoon to discuss the case where children living in Dilkusha Home have been allegedly subjected to verbal and physical abuse and neglect.
Police Spokesperson, Ana Naisoro says investigations are ongoing.
The complainant had also requested the Human Rights Commission to investigate the manner in which the present management is running the orphanage, in particular, the use of food rations and other assistance given to the Home by the public and the state. ....

Church denies abuse claims at Fiji orphanage

But the church said it was investigating the claims at the Dilkusha Home in Nausori .
Church president Reverend Ili Vunisuwai said details of the alleged abuse are yet to verified.
We have interviewed the head of the orphanage who is managing the home including the children who were alleged to have been abused, he said.
Surely, if there is any evidence we will take action.
Meanwhile, the Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commissioner said it had received a complaint lodged by a person alleging the abuse at the home.
Ashwin Raj and the matter has also been referred to police. ....
