Dikes hoping to hold back that water from some of the neighborhoods that haven t been as affected yet. certainly that s a possibility. this water is not going anywhere. it s not moving quickly. and as you know, the long that water sits, it can weaken levees, top levees and there s nothing they can do at this point. flood fights, we ll see people being able to go in and shore them up or add sandbags or do other things to hole back water. in this case, it s not possible. they are not able to do that. they re working with levees in place before the water moved in and they re just hoping that they are going to hold so there s no more damage here in minot. janelle klein, we ll check in again. in new york, it s a much different story. the skies are expected to stay clear, sunny and bright for the march over the legalization of same-sex marriage, that kicks off in manhattan at noon today. for the weather beyond the big apple, let s head to the weather channel s jeff morrow. good morning. ....

Here. you can see the water is not going to leave any time soon. according to officials on the ground, this could be here two weeks, maybe not this high but something they have to deal with. talking to the national guard they have people on patrol all over the region right now and patrolling the dikes and looking for any areas where the water break through. it is stubborn and peeling down the birt. the water has gone over the initial levees that were built here. their flood system was surpassed long ago this week. but they had other levees that built up. the water went over those and they have a secondary dike and rings around the buildings to keep the building protected. we are getting an update and city officials and national officials and find out where things stand for residents. they have 11,000 people here that are out of their homes and 4000 homes are lost so far ....

I would see the river like this. kevin tibbles is in minot, north dakota. what is the situation like? reporter: they are calling it a wall of water. it is headed in this direction. just over my shoulder, you can see they are frantically trying to build up this earth and berm to protect the city s water supply. as far as the mayor is concerned, they have done almost as much as they can. it is up to mother nature and there is very little they can do to stop it. for residents of minot, the sound of sirens signalled the time to head for higher ground. this is a very sad time for the city of minot. we are kind of numb. reporter: the rising souris river forced 11,000 residents from their homes as the national guard worked to shore up weakened dikes. you think about your home. how would you feel if you knew this was coming down and was ....
