hello and welcome to audiences in the uk and around the world. a national emergency has been declared in pakistan after almost 1,000 people died following severe monsoon flooding that began injune. more than 33 million people have been affected by the country s heaviest rainfall in decades. hundreds of thousands of homes have been destroyed, and thousands of people have taken refuge in relief camps. the worst affected areas are in the provinces of balochistan and sindh in the south, from where our pakistan correspondent pumza fihlani reports. moving to higher ground. families wade through the water with the only belongings they could salvage. in southern pakistan, many streets have been turned into rivers. families have set up tents on the few roads that are still visible. it s been more than ten days of heavy rains and yet the streets are still flooded. this is one of the main roads linking this community to the outside world. something has also happened here. many of the
