year harry reid had so much power, now in the minority harry reid still seems to be calling some of the shots, trying to make the speaker promise he can deliver. that s something we have watched over time jose difficult for the speaker to be able to promise what his conference will do. that s why his remarks coming up are so important. jose? we will be going live to them when they do happen. amanda, does the fact that mcconnell is willing to put up a clean bill represent a victory for the white house? i don t think it is time for the white house to take a victory lap quite yet. as kelly outlined though senator mcconnell came out and said he is willing to issue a clean bill that doesn t necessarily mean democrats or even congressional republicans for that matter will take up the deal. politically, this could be damaging for the republican party. you know after the terror attacks abroad after growing concerns with isis the idea of
resides in the congress not in the white house, and so if the senate democrats were keenly interested in protecting the constitution, they would do the right thing and vote on the bill we sent a few weeks ago. let s say they decide senate decides what mcconnell is saying today and overnight is a possibility of a clean bill on homeland security department, and then afterwards a bill to deal with the president s executive action there are two different possibilities, separating one from the other, and that way you get past friday at midnight and thousands of men and women aren t going to have to go to work for dhs without getting paid. again, i think that issue resides fully in the hands of senate democrats who have stalled the process. as soon as the senate democrats do what they have been hired to do paid by the taxpayers to do vote on a bill the house passed
and he wants to tell his members that he is not part of that strategy. this is a senate strategy. they re doing things on their own. when the senate acts they ll decide what to do. it seems to me boehner is essentially going to let himself get jammed by the senate and say by friday they have no other choice but to pass a senate clean dhs bill. indications are that the senate would eventually approve a clean bill in the next couple days as long as republicans get a separate vote targeting the president s executive actions on immigration that s not tied to the funding process. cr is not part of the discussion now, it would be seems as though it is this clean bill with a separate immigration bill or nothing? i think the cr is certainly a possibility. boehner has to assess what happens in the senate. there are some folks on the republican side in the house that prefer a cr because they can continue to fight the
