OMCs made Rs8b during petrol crisis: inquiry report Says lack of coordination among departments also one of causes of fuel shortage in June ISLAMABAD: A commission of inquiry formed in July this year to probe into a sudden shortage of petrol in the country has noted that one of the reasons behind the crisis was a lack of coordination among the departments working under the Petroleum Division. This is revealed in a report of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) led inquiry panel. The commission has submitted its report to Prime Minister Imran Khan who has asked the relevant officials to present it before the federal cabinet in its meeting to be held on Tuesday [today]. ....

The commission’s report also asked for dissolution of Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) for six months through act of Parliament, arguing it is not aligned with the ground realities. The government of Pakistan constituted it on July 28, 2020 to probe into the shortage of petroleum products. The 155-page report submitted to the federal cabinet that meets today (Tuesday), mentions the catalogue of failures of Ogra since 2002 that includes dishing out licenses to OMCs without ensuring actual enhancement of storage facilities, failure to ensure minimum stock requirements, imposition of ritual fines on OMCs for drying out their retail ....

9 Petroleum Companies Hoarded Petrol in June and Made Billions: Report The five-member Inquiry Commission headed by Additional DG FIA Abubakar Khudabaksh was formed in July this year to probe into sudden petrol shortage in the country earlier this year in June. The findings of the commission have revealed that a lack of coordination among the departments working under the Petroleum Division was one of the primary reasons for the shortage.
