Council approves trash rate increase, telecommunication franchise ordinances


A trash rate increase from the Hopkinsville Solid Waste Enterprise was approved on the first reading by the Hopkinsville City Council Tuesday night.
Once approved on the second reading, the minimum rates for garbage and trash collection will increase to $25 per month for everyone across the board.
Those increases mean residences utilizing 95-gallon containers move from $21.59 per month up to $25, apartments were previously rated $14.87 per month will also increase to $25 and finally, the economy classification will see the increase from $12.17 to $25 per month.
This will be the first price increase HSWE has proposed over the past 15 years, with the last rate change being in 2005. ....

City Council Approves Closure of Section of East 11th Street


The Southern Belle Cafe is located at the corner of East 11
th Street and Main Street. According to Bourne, the restaurant’s owners plan to use the closed section of the street for outdoor seating.

In other action, city council unanimously accepted a proposal from Community Development Services to incorporate Blue Creek Lane, Jennie Stuart Way and Milburn Keith Lane into the city, effective May 13
th. According to Bourne, the proposal also includes a recommendation for a one-year warranty and retainage of a surety of more than $153,850.00 to begin.
And council unanimously approved a motion made by Councilman Terry Parker for a municipal order to be prepared and brought before council in the future that establishing guidance and rules to recognize championship athletes. ....

Hopkinsville City Council Approves Operational Budget Amendment


Hopkinsville City Council approved a budget amendment on the first reading that includes allocating funds to cover the operations of the PACS public transportation for the remainder of this fiscal year.
The Council’s approval of the budget amendment for fiscal year 2020-2021 increased the PACS public transportation budget by $26,000 and increased the prior year’s revenue by approximately $327,000 to a little over $1 million. The amended total expenses are just over $40.1 million.
Council also approved a budget amendment transferring more than $301,000 to the capital fund for the replacement of audio/video equipment for the Informational Technology Department and two dump trucks for the Public Works Department. Council also approved a municipal order for the Capital Equipment Replacement Reserve Fund Purchases for the equipment and dump trucks. ....
