The Newport News Police Department hopes to relocate its north precinct from a 5,514-square-foot station at 368 Deshazor Dr. to a nearly 76,000-square-foot building at the Sherwood Shopping Center. The new building would allow the department to have a training center and office, classroom and community spaces.
Newport News has been awarded $640,994 grant for design work to expand the city's Seafood Industrial Park. Some early ideas for a seafood market include kiosks, restaurants and a hall where vendors could sell seafood.
The ship repair and fabrication facility is set to bring more than 330 jobs to Newport News. City Manager Cindy Rohlf said the new jobs “will uplift our residents” and "truly change lives.”
