KASARAGOD: BJP state president K Surendran is contesting in two assembly constituencies Manjeshwar, where he lost by 89 votes in 2016, and in Konni, the epicentre of Sabarimala protest. It is the first time a BJP leader is contesting from two constituencies in Kerala.
Surendran, who took a chopper to reach Manjeshwar on Sunday, said he was contesting from the two constituencies because the people of both the places inspired confidence in him and the party.
In Manjeshwar, he said, he lost by 89 votes to PB Abdul Razak because of bogus voting and cheating by the IUML with the help of the CPM . It is important that the BJP reclaim Manjeshwar, he said. To be sure, he had gone to the high court alleging bogus voting but could not prove his charge.

Apprehensions over crowd management
The Attukal Bhagavathy Temple Trust has decided to confine the Pongala on February 27 to the ‘pandara aduppu,’ the main hearth, at the Attukal temple, according to trust authorities.
The decision seems to have been taken in the wake of apprehensions over adherence to COVID-19 protocols.
Trust authorities say limiting the Pongala to the temple premises could not preclude overcrowding for entry, thus creating problems for crowd management. People could offer Pongala at their houses, they said.
A high-level meeting chaired by Minister for Devaswom Kadakampally Surendran last week had decided that the annual Pongala, billed the largest congregation of women, would be held within the premises of the temple in compliance with COVID-19 protocols.

The annual Attukal Pongala, billed the largest congregation of women, will be held on the premises of the Attukal Bhagavathy temple here in compliance with COVID-19 protocols on February 27.
Rituals such as ‘Kutthiyottam,’ ‘Vilakkukettu,’ and ‘Thalapoli’, held as part of the 10-day festival commencing on February 19, have been dropped from this year’s festival schedule. However, ‘Annadanam’ will be held at Amba auditorium adhering to the green protocol and COVID-19 guidelines, and food will be made available in packets.
