Everyday transactions will be made easier and faster under reforms being introduced by the Reserve Bank of Fiji (RBF) to modernize the nation’s financial system, in turn supporting small businesses and individuals and promoting inclusive economic development.
The Fijian Parliament today passed the National Payment System Act, paving the way for this reform program that is set to boost access to affordable payment services through digital solutions and support the drive for greater financial inclusion. Transactions will be made more efficient and safer for businesses and households alike under the legislation that creates the enabling environment for an upgraded national payment and settlement system that will facilitate enhanced electronic fund transfers, retail payments and agent banking. ....

THE recovery of the domestic economy is anticipated to be gradual because of uncertainty surrounding the post-COVID-19 environment and the resulting new norm.
Recently the World Bank Group released its 2021-2024 Country Partnership Framework for Fiji which will look at two focus areas over the next four years fostering private sector-led growth and inclusive economic opportunities creating investment and business opportunities; more jobs; improved access to finance; boosting the tourism and agriculture sectors; as well as better infrastructure, digital services and more clean energy. ....

WASHINGTON D.C., January 21, 2021 – Today, the Board of Executive Directors of the World Bank Group (WBG) discussed the new framework for its engagement with Fiji over the next four years, aimed at boosting the Fijian economy and strengthening its fiscal, climate and social resilience following the impacts of two tropical cyclones, and the devastating fall-out from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The
World Bank Group’s Country Partnership Framework for Fiji, the first for Fiji, provides a strategic road-map of priority activities for World Bank Group member organizations: the World Bank; the International Finance Corporation (IFC) which focuses on the private sector in developing countries; and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), which offers risk insurance and credit enhancement guarantees. ....
