DETROIT – The city of Detroit continues to battle coronavirus as city officials push for more people to get vaccinated.
Community organizations are stepping up to get the word out about the availability of vaccines, the safety of vaccines.
While demand for the vaccine in Detroit seems to be running low, there was a line of people ready to be vaccinated Thursday at the Sheffield Center on Grand River Avenue. The Rev. Horace Sheffield was able to access his database to get as many on board as possible.

The city is doing all it can to get more people vaccinated by offering walk-ins with no appointment needed, but the TCF Center and Ford Field seem nearly empty. What makes the Sheffield Center different? It could be the connection to the Reverend and its efforts to inform and educate the community.

DETROIT – The Joe Biden Administration officially announced Friday morning it will be working with state officials to build a new major Community Vaccination Center (CVC) in Detroit.
“I’m pleased to announce the addition of a new FEMA-supported site in Detroit,” said White House COVID-19 Response Coordinator Jeff Zients. “This site, located at Ford Field, home of the Detroit Lions, has the ability to administer 6,000 shots per day.”

Detroit mayor backtracks on comments about Johnson & Johnson vaccine

DETROIT – Detroit this week turned down 6,200 doses of the newly authorized Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccine, favoring shots from Pfizer and Moderna, but said Friday it will accept J&J doses in the state’s next allocation.
Mayor Mike Duggan had said Thursday that residents should get the “best” vaccines from Moderna and Pfizer conflicting with guidance from top state and federal health officials who caution against comparing the three vaccines and note all provide strong protection against the worst outcomes.
Duggan had also said the allotment of 29,000 Pfizer and Moderna doses “covered everyone who wanted a vaccination this week. On Friday, he called J&J vaccines a key part of our expansion of vaccine centers.”

Sources in Wayne County said that FEMA has not yet defined what “regional” means.
Detroit police were quietly providing security outside of Ford Field on Monday while inside a team from FEMA got a close look.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency wanted to see Ford Field up close and plan with Wayne County government officials about using the 65,000 seat stadium as a COVID-19 mass vaccination site.
FEMA wants Ford Field up and running for vaccinations by mid-March. The goal is to get 6,000 people in each day at first.
