As played by Cush Jumbo (“Vera”) in the six-part thriller “The Beast Must Die,” which begins streaming Monday, July 5, on AMC+ (and debuts the following Monday on AMC), she s a British widow who lost her son in a hit-and-run accident and resolves to find the party responsible and make them pay – with their life. Posing as a novelist researching a murder mystery, she insinuates herself into the life of George Rattery (Jared Harris, “Chernobyl”), the man she believes ran her boy down. On her trail is Detective Nigel Strangeways (Billy Howle, “The Serpent”), who suffers from PTSD following the death of his partner. He has reason to believe the police covered up George s involvement in the boy s death.
