Kolkata: A Kolkata hospital has decided to settle the bill of a Covid victim through the government’s Swasthya Sathi, at a time when patients have been alleging of private hospitals denying entertaining the scheme.
The relief to the victim’s family came after it approached the West Bengal Health Clinical Establishment Regulatory Commission. The patient, Pranab Kumar Banik (64) was admitted to RTIICS on January 10. The Shakuntala Park resident succumbed on January 29. ....

Covid patient shift compensation

The West Bengal Clinical Establishment Regulatory Commission on Monday decided to hand over Rs 1 lakh as compensation to a family of a man, who was forced by Woodlands Hospital to shift as soon as he tested positive for Covid-19 last June.
A 79-year-old man was admitted to Woodlands in June. Soon after his admission he tested positive for Covid-19. Banerjee said the report arrived in the evening.
“The hospital immediately started putting pressure on the family to shift him elsewhere,” he said.
Banerjee added the hospital had arranged for the patient’s transfer to Desun Hospital and also arranged an ambulance. ....

The state health department has decided to reduce the number of Covid beds it had requisitioned in private hospitals across the state in early days of the pandemic because “rates of hospitalisation of Covid patients are…going down”.
The director of state health services, Ajay Chakraborty, issued an order on Wednesday allowing requisitioned beds at 55 private hospitals across Bengal to be used for treating non-Covid patients.

West Bengal govt planning to reduce beds for COVID-19 treatment in Kolkata as cases fall

Nine hospitals have 2,410 beds of which 285 are in three private hospitals. 1,700 of these beds are now empty.

Kolkata: The state government is all set to reduce Covid beds, with occupancy falling to 30%. The treatment will be restricted to 2-3 government facilities in the city.
The Infectious Diseases and Beliaghata General Hospital and KS Roy TB Hospital in Jadavpur have been designated as the two hospitals that would handle Kolkata’s Covid burden where the rest of government units go for a gradual withdrawal of Covid treatment. ....

Refund orders to 2 hospitals by West Bengal Clinical Establishment Regulatory Commission

The West Bengal Clinical Establishment Regulatory Commission on Friday asked R Flemming Hospital to return Rs 3 lakh to a Covid patient and Horizon Life Line to return Rs 2 lakh to another after it found that the city hospitals had overcharged the patients.
Retired judge Ashim Banerjee, the chairperson of the commission, said they found that Horizon Life Line had charged more than the government capped rates for personal protection equipment (PPE) and doctors’ consultation fees.
Regarding the complaint against R Flemming, he said that the bill generated by the hospital was not justified given the fact that the patient had stayed most of the days in a general bed. ....
