100 YEARS AGO January 27, 1921 Sheriff H. C. Topping last Monday morning swooped down on Mr. and Mrs. J.O. Jones who live on Dry Creek, about 25 miles from Madras, and who, it was alleged were engaged in the illicit brewing of whiskey at the R.P. Harvey place about a quarter of a mile from the Jones place. In addition to about two quarts of the far-famed shine, he brought to Madras a copper still of about 25 or 30 gallons capacity and left at the place about 35 gallons of raisin mash. The still was found in operation, with a glowing fire underneath and the moonshine dripping from it. The case was tried before Justice of the Peace H.W. Turner Wednesday. The Jones pleading not guilty to the charge of making liquor. After all evidence was presented, a jury consisting of Messers Thos. Jones, A.L. Lambert, J.E. Chestnut, Perry Read, S.F. Robertson and C.E. Roush, after being out about half an hour, found them guilty of the charge and a fine of $50.00 was assessed against Mrs ....
