In some ways, the FSU/Asolo Conservatory in Sarasota could not have picked a more timely play than Anna Deavere Smith’s powerful “Twilight: Los Angeles, 1992” to open a new season for its second-year students. This close-up look at the events that led to and followed the police beating of Rodney King in Los Angeles in 1991 resonates today after a seemingly endless number of cases of police abuse against people of color across the country.
