Former Brevard County Deputy Yousef Hafza was found not guilty Friday of second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder in the shooting that killed Clarence Howard five years ago.
The jury deliberated for nearly four hours after arguments wrapped up before delivering both not guilty verdicts. Hafza embraced his family and had his ankle bracelet removed as Howard s family expressed grief, decrying the verdicts. Howard, 25, was a father of three.
We re so happy today that the system played itself all the way to the end and the jury saw the truth, Hafza said after the verdict. It s definitely a huge weight off our shoulders for sure. ....
